Moving and Packing Tips
When it comes to packing and moving to a new location, the thought of it in itself is daunting. Below are some tips that may come in handy when you are moving to your new residence. Using these guides and suggestions, you’ll discover packing isn’t as difficult as you first thought.
Plan Ahead
When you move, pack items in advance so there is less work and stress on moving day. Depending on how much time you have before your move, set a date to start packing your goods. This time could be anywhere from several weeks to several months before being moved and must depend heavily on how much stuff you have. The family that owns a large amount of furniture, trinkets, toys, kitchen utensils, and bedding may want to start packing several months in advance. People preparing to move should also organize their things and leave unwanted items at a thrift store or hold a garage sale.
Envelopes
On the day of moving, people often find packaging materials missing, which is the reason to order or collect them ahead of time. This will make packing much easier. Many companies throw away cardboard boxes. Stopping at a grocery store or other business is a way to get packing boxes for free. Other items must be purchased before a move, such as packing materials for fragile objects, tapes for sealing boxes, and labels.
It is less expensive to pack items properly the first time than it is to replace broken items later. Inflated cushioning and tissue paper are the best options for packing delicate items, but it is also important to label the boxes and put them aside because they have to be packed on top of other objects to avoid being crushed. Labeling each box will help to move the boxes and unpack at a later time.
Transport
Ultimately, you need to consider your options of moving vehicles. The person who owns a truck or large van could possibly move themselves. However, you should measure the larger pieces of furniture against the size of your car or truck to make sure it fits.
Many companies offer rental services of trucks which generally charge a flat fee plus mileage for a certain period of time. Budget Truck Rental, Penske and Ryder are a few options in the US. The individual renting the truck has to pack the articles and drive the truck to its destination. These truck rentals are available in many different sizes.
Moving Help
On the day of moving, additional people are always helpful. Moving can become tiresome for one or two people, so friends and family are invaluable on moving day. Rewarding your friends with pizza, beer, or some other incentive is a very inexpensive way to get help. Another option is to ask local teenagers or post an ad on a site like Craigslist and pay your help by the hour.
